Background

Steven Victor Tallarico was born at the Stuyvesant Polyclinic in Manhattan, New York, on March 26, 1948, to his mother Susan Ray, a secretary, and his father Victor A. Tallarico, a local music teacher at the Cardinal Spellman High School in The Bronx. When he was three years old, his family relocated to the Bronx; when he was nine, they moved to 100 Pembrook Drive in Northeast Yonkers. Tyler also has an older sister named Lynda.

In his early years, he attended the Roosevelt High School, located on the corner of Tuckahoe Road, in Yonkers, New York, from which he was expelled due to marijuana use. He eventually graduated from Quintano’s School for Young Professionals.

Tyler was originally inspired to start playing rock and roll when he was 17 and attended a Rolling Stones concert. About the concert, he remarks: “Everybody said I looked like Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards was the music I used to love more than anything.”

By 1970, Tyler and a few of his friends decided to form a band. Tyler, who played drums in high school, insisted he would be the frontman of the band. He recruited old friends Joey Kramer, who would play the drums, and Ray Tabano, to play rhythm guitar. The band Aerosmith was born, and then they relocated to Boston, into a small shared apartment in Aliston, in the autumn of 1970. Shortly after their relocation to Boston, Tyler began having problems with Tabano’s lack of interest and dedication to the band, eventually replacing him with Brad Whitford. Tyler co-managed Aerosmith — organizing its performances and appearances — with Kramer.

Aerosmith’s live shows were massive hits during the 1970s, as the band made appearances on “Live! Bootleg” and the 1989 V.H.S. release “Live Texxas Jam ’78.”

Tyler made his acting debut in 1978, in the film “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” along with his bandmates, in the role of the Future Villain Band. This also sparked their cover of the famous Beatles song ‘Come Together,’ which was Aerosmith’s top-40 single for nine consecutive years.
