Background
With his unique sense of fashion style, short, fluffy hairdo, and, of course, his general attractiveness, Boo the Pomeranian, renowned globally as the ‘World’s Cutest Dog,’ has made an imprint in many lives! Boo was born on March 16, 2006, in San Francisco, California. Living the regular good life of any pet, Boo’s owner, Irene Ahn — an employee of “Facebook” — decided to create a Facebook page for Boo in 2009 when the pup was just four years old. Though her intentions were just to show off the everyday life of Boo and his trendy wardrobe to her Facebook friends, his cuteness softened the hearts of many as his page gained followers and likes. The life of Boo soon rose in popularity amongst celebrities such as singer Kesha and T.V. personality, Khloe Kardashian. In 2010, Boo went viral after Kesha sent a tweet about Boo, claiming that the handsome pooch was her new boyfriend, and shared the link to his Facebook page.
Since 2010, Boo’s owner has been approached by many brands and organizations for business collaborations with the famous Pomeranian. Chronicle Books — a popular book publishing company in San Francisco — approached Irene to create a picture book of Boo. In 2011, “Boo: The Life of the World’s Cutest Dog” was authored by his owner under the name J.H. Lee, and includes a range of photographs of Boo’s everyday life. The book is available in 10 languages. Shortly after in 2012, J.H. Lee released a second book on the life of Boo, titled “Boo: Little Dog in the Big City,” which tells the story and has photographs of Boo’s adventures in the big city of San Francisco.
Boo’s name continued to trend in 2012 following a death hoax. A Facebook user posted a #RIPBOO post which soon started trending on Twitter too. However, Chronicle Books extinguished the false rumors of their renowned client and confirmed that the pooch was still alive and well. Within the same year, Boo became the face of Virgin America Airlines after he became the ‘spokesdog’ and was named the ‘Official Pet Liaison.’ Boo was photographed in the airplane with advice for people traveling with pets. The year 2019 started on a sad note for many of Boo’s fans as the official news of his death circulated. Boo started showing signs of heart problems shortly after the death of his brother, Buddy, and died peacefully in his sleep on January 18, 2019.
